Within the village of Thumersbach, the people still embrace the traditional ways of life. Just as the carpenters have been trained to follow the traditional methods of craftsmanship, the long held traditions of the mountains, which have been passed down for generations, touch all parts of everyday life in this valley. Most women make their own jams and jellies from local berries, and searching for mushrooms high in the mountains is a favorite past time of many locals during the summer months. These mushrooms are then brought home and used to create delicious entrées for the entire family. Additionally, homemade schnapps encompassing the taste of the mountains is the jewel of each farmer in the land.
