What is Arolla Pine?
A beautiful wood found only in the mountainous regions of Europe

The Arolla Pine (Pinus cembra) is found primarily in this mountainous regions of Austria, Switzerland and France. These trees can grow to the alpine tree-line and are therefore exposed to hard climatic conditions and its growth is very slow. Those trees that manage to survive for centuries are often shaped like chandeliers; some branches grow out from the main trunk and then rise up vertically with it. You can recognize the arolla pine by the needles which grow in groups of five.

This European wood is unique because of its light, beautiful color and mild pleasant aroma due to essential oils. The natural darkening of this wood occurs when it is exposed to sunlight; it will often turns from light brown to a deep golden brown. This color change accentuates the beauty and brings a warm calming appearance. In fact, many homes and hotels in the Alps have arolla Pine lined walls for this very reason.
The wood is often used by sculptors, for it is not hard and does not split. The majority of our handcrafted cradles, which are manufactured in a small village in the Austrian Alps, are handcrafted of this special wood.
